The soiree was a success. There were plenty of jovial guess singing and playing various string instruments. But little Franky, a four year old boy was tired and retreated from the festivities. He stumbled down the long corridor eagerly anticipating the comfort of his warm bed. The brightly lit hallway was flanked by numerous bedrooms, and Franky had to make his way to the end of the corridor.
Franky observed the lights shimmering as if they were about to go out. He stopped, instinctively aware that trouble was ahead. He took one step back gulping air when the lights in front of him extinguished. He made an about turn and to his horror the other lights went out. His pounding heart silenced the music that was coming from the living room. And although the gathering of people could not have been further then 30 feet away from him, it might as well have been 30 miles. Franky tried hard not to panic. He realize that his bedroom was closer to him then the safety of his father's embrace. He decided that his bedroom would be the haven of choice. He turned back and faced the dark corridor and discovered that the doors to the bedrooms had been replaced by odd alcoves, each housing stone statutes. There was something familiar about this setting. Something brewed deep within him. "This is wrong!" Franky moved forward, carefully inspecting each stone figure. Franky was just a few steps away from his bedroom door, when an ominous shadow emerged from the far recess and overtook the boy. "No, please let me go," Franky cried.
Interlude
The corridor faded out of view, as the sound of the festivities diminished. Franky was now racing past the backdrop of streaking stars. A loud whining sound reverberated in his ear. He was about to collide with...
The little boy awakened shivering and crying. He was in a locked washroom again but could not remember how he got there. Now Franky did not have enough courage to return to his room. Franky slumbered on the cold washroom floor, in the fetal position.
